Greta Oto is known as a glasswing butterfly for its transparent wings, which allow it to camouflage without extensive coloration. The tissue between their veins looks like glass, as it lacks the colored scales found in other butterflies. Transparent parts of the glasswing butterfly’s wings naturally reflect only about 2 percent of light, removing the waxy layer caused the wings to reflect more light about 2.5 times. These clear wings make it extremely difficult for predatory birds to track it in flight.
